The Civilian Corps
A common bond for the military and civilians was the uncertainty. The uncertainty of poor communications, knowing if and when supplies would get through, how loved ones were, and when would the war finally end.
You are invited to see how the civilians lived, how the war affected their daily lives and their views of the war. Come join us as we experience life during the American Civil War.

CIVILIAN LIFE

If  leisure time was found during the day, it was most likely spent writing to
loved ones at home, visiting with other ladies, mending clothes and reading.
The Bible being most often the book of choice.  Cooking for themselves
was their responsibility and obtaining the food was theirs also.
At times it was as hard on them as with the solders in the field.

On rare occasions, a ball was organized and if  the camp was near
a large city, a formal ball was held, with debutantes, fresh vegetables, meats and
pastries. One brief night to put the war and worries behind. Tomorrow
would arrive soon enough.

The Civilian camp is open to the public to see how they lived alongside of their
gallant soldiers. The camp welcomes spectators.
In short, the Civilian camp of the ACWA
is a place where ladies and children can feel comfortable, safe and
have a wonderful and pleasant time while husbands, sweethearts and sons
take to the field to fight for what they believe in.
